We are seeking a talented Shipyard Estimator to join our client's dynamic team in the greater NYC area. In this role, you will play a crucial part in their shipyard projects by preparing accurate cost estimates based on client specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze bid opportunities, ensuring thorough review of specifications and revisions for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare timely and precise estimates, even when predetermined standards are unavailable, by obtaining pricing for materials and estimating costs effectively.
- Estimate costs for growth work and change orders on new and existing projects, including vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Utilize your ability to read and interpret vessel drawings and piping schematics to enhance the estimation process.
- Maintain up-to-date resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, and relevant government requirements.
- Actively participate in all aspects of estimating projects, including ship checks, to ensure project goals are achieved within designated timelines and budget constraints.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently by effectively prioritizing workload.
- Foster clear and efficient communication with engineers, owners, subcontractors, and team members.
- Demonstrate knowledge of ABS and USCG regulations throughout the estimation process.
Requirements:
- Preferably possess a college engineering degree and/or marine engineer license.
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in a marine repair/construction setting preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in typing and using common office equipment, including copiers, printers, fax machines, scanners, and multi-function office machines.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD required; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Project, Word, and Excel is essential.
- Capable of ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient for navigating work sites, including climbing stairs and ladderways.
- Exhibit good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, with visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read information.
- Comfortable using personal protective equipment such as respirators, hard hats, and safety footwear while on work sites.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors throughout the year, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
