Job Title: Commodity Buyer - Machinery and Fabrications
Position Overview:
Seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Commodity Buyer specializing in Machinery and Fabrications. The Commodity Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing machinery components, fabrications, and related commodities. This role requires a deep understanding of the machinery and fabrications market, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to manage supplier relationships effectively to ensure quality, cost-efficiency, and timely delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing and Procurement:
- Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers for machinery components, fabrications, and related commodities.
- Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to meet the company's needs for quality, cost, and delivery performance.
- Manage the end-to-end procurement process, including issuing RFQs/RFPs, analyzing bids, negotiating contracts, and finalizing agreements.
Supplier Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable and high-quality sourcing.
- Conduct regular supplier evaluations and implement improvement plans where necessary.
- Collaborate with suppliers to drive innovation, improve quality, and reduce costs.
Cost Management and Optimization:
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to achieve procurement cost reduction targets.
- Perform cost analysis and benchmarking to ensure competitive pricing.
- Monitor market trends and pricing fluctuations for machinery and fabrications to inform sourcing decisions.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure that all purchased commodities meet the company's quality standards and specifications.
- Work closely with the quality assurance team to address any issues related to supplier quality and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Participate in supplier audits and quality assessments to ensure compliance with industry standards and company requirements.
Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain to ensure continuity of supply and minimize disruptions.
- Develop contingency plans for critical commodities to ensure availability during supply shortages or market volatility.
- Stay informed of industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes that may impact sourcing decisions.
Inventory Management:
- Collaborate with the inventory management team to ensure optimal inventory levels for machinery components and fabrications.
- Monitor and manage lead times, delivery schedules, and stock levels to avoid stockouts or excess inventory.
- Implement strategies to improve inventory turnover and reduce carrying costs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure procurement aligns with project timelines, technical specifications, and overall business objectives.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between procurement and other departments to optimize sourcing outcomes.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of all procurement activities, including purchase orders, contracts, and supplier communications.
- Prepare and present regular reports on procurement performance, cost savings, and supplier performance to management.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and ethical standards in all procurement activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in procurement, preferably with a focus on machinery and fabrications.
- Strong understanding of the machinery and fabrications market, including industry trends, suppliers, and pricing structures.
- FAR and DFAR regulations experience
- Proven track record of successful negotiation and supplier management.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in procurement software and tools, such as ERP systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
